Hi guys, I have about 40k on the clock and have my brake pads change at around 20 for incessant squeaking. The IDrive said I had something like 25k or more and the rear ones hat 5k. I had my car in for the head swap and asked them to change the rears as a courtesy because of the time my car was out (long story) anyway the service dealer gave me trouble so I asked him to actually provide me with a measurment of all 4 rotors and all 4 sets of pads.

Well turns out BOTH sets of rotors, front and rear were 22mm under spec which requires bmw to change them both. The rear pads were about 1mm left on them which essentially is time to change.

So this idioit ended up having to replace all 4 rotors, pads and sensors for a whopping 1500 price tag billed to them as I am still under warranty/service.

If he would ahve been nice and just changed my pads he would have saved a lot of money but I am glad he did not. Made me think though make sure your rotors are measured each time you change pads ans ask for the specs exactly unless they obviously change the rotor for you.

My understanding is BMW require to change rotors alone with pad change. This is requirement to meet BMW spec.

The "idiot" is smart. They get commission either you pay or BMW pay.... So as long as they can make BMW agree, the more $$ they put on bill, they get more $$ home.

Where are you located and is your car still under warranty? The discrepancy between front and rear brake wear is strange. Mine are always within 1,000 miles of each other.

Also, your rotors were not "22mm under spec" I can assure you. FYI - 22mm is about 3/4 inch. Rotor wear measures the thickness of the rotor...
