So I officially hate Toyo T1R's. On the way to Vegas, a bubble formed on the inside sidewall on my left rear tire. I'm lucky I didn't get a blow out. This is the second set of rear tires I've had issues with. The first time, the inside of my sidewalls split on both rear tires.

So now that I've put over 500 total miles on my donut, on 2 separate Vegas runs, I'm looking for a full-size spare that will fit in that compartment while still keeping the trunk liner flush. Is that even possible?

Don't think so ... the temp spare fills the under liner space almost completely.

Did Toyo replace the tires under a warranty or did they claim that they were damaged by a road hazard (like a pothole) and not covered by "manufacturers defect" warranty?

 

it's possible. i'm almost there (more on that later.) if you have an 04 or 05 car, you have to relocate two modules that are under the spare tire, one is the micro power module, the other is PDC (if you have it.) The TPM also goes down there if you have it.

all you have to do is remove the plastic trim on the bottom lip of the trunk opening and separate the cables for those units from the rest of the wiring loom. This is really, really easy, just remove the black tape, separate the cables, and re-tape once you're done. I relocated both modules to the right side of the trunk, where they can't get wet. no disconnection was necessary, just took a little time to get the tape on/off right.

Once you've relocated the modules, it's a matter of getting a full size wheel and tire. Note that a 245/35/19 will *not* fit, it is mathematically a bit larger than the other sizes for this car. the 275/30/19 fit in much better but not all the way. So now I'm looking for a 255/30/19 and once I get that it should go all the way in. Right now I have the 245/35 crammed in there, to at least have something available (once I upgraded the front brakes the donut became useless to me.)

I'll take pics once i get the 255/30 mounted.

i had the same problems with the pirelli p zeros all bubbled up too. Weird i thought about it, i had to replace all four of them.

 

I've put about 500 miles on the donut. Current tire size is 135/80/17. Do you guys think its safe to continue running the donut the next time I get a flat?

If I can't fit a full-size spare in the trunk, can I throw a wider tire on there? I was thinking 165/70/17.

I'm still waiting on finding out about warranty replacement for my original tires. I left it up to the shop I got them from, but someone dropped the ball. I talked to Toyo customer service directly today and will be following up tomorrow.

I guess I won't be getting Pirelli! Hah.
