I've always heard that Chevron Techron is the really good. It can't hurt -- I add a bottle with a fill up maybe 3 times a year. I can't tell a difference after, but have never had injector problems. If your injectors are a little clogged it might take more than once to help clear things out.
+1 for chevron techron.

Does the fuel injection cleaner they sell at pepboys work? My mpg is gone so bad that I may have to switch cars with my dad (Prius) for my e60 since I commute about 40 miles a day.

If anyone knows which one works, can you point me to the right direction?
I tried both Chervon and BG 44k in my Volvo. No difference at all. I put 1 bottle/can every year. Volvo dealer uses Chervon every 30k miles.

So are you saying that there's no difference between the two products or that there's no difference in the performance of your car after using either of them?

Rudy,

Yes. I did not see any difference. Maybe, I was using Super gas for my cars since day 1, just maybe.

Again, assuming you mean you didn't see any difference with the performance of your car after using these additives, I'm wondering if you had any issues with your car in the first place.

I've never needed these products on my newer cars (no older than 3 years) but I know the BG 44K product did wonders on an older M3 that had was running a little rough, etc. after sitting in storage for a while...

I have no issues with my car in the first place. Just put them in every year in my Volvo and now it is 12 years old, 180k miles, so far so good. I have not put them into my 530i yet. Maybe when it is 6 or 7 years old ....

BMWCCA Tech Guru Mike Miller recommends RedLine SI-1 for regular (at every fillup) use in BMWs. This repeated application is especially recommended, he says, if you're not using "Top-Tier" gasoline all the time. SI-1 comes in 15-oz bottles which cost about $5 each. With repeated SI-1 use, my 2007 530xi mileage has risen to an average of 19.5 MPG around Boston, and 29 MPG on highways. Here's the blurb from RedLine about the product:
SI-1 Complete Fuel System Cleaner
SI-1's injector and valve detergent is a concentrated package of the most powerful high-temperature detergents available to clean gasoline fuel injectors or carburetors, intake valves and combustion chambers and can clean injectors to nearly 100% efficiency in one treatment. The cleansing effect on injector deposits can raise fuel economy approximately 12% or even greater, depending on the condition of the injectors.

SI-1 also contains detergents and a synthetic upper cylinder lubricant which will help clean pollution control valves and can reduce octane requirements by two numbers. SI-1 also protects the fuel system from rust.

Use one bottle with a full tank or use in smaller doses for continued maintenance, as SI-1 treats up to 100 gallons. Safe for continual use.
