Font Brake job on 530 Xi

Hello all,
I spoke to the local BMW dealer here in Chapel Hill NC about doing a brake job for the front bakes. They said I must change out the rotors. They said they cannot be cut on the 2006 530 Xi. I was going to just buy pads from the dealer and have the rotors cut and do the install myself. The rotors don't look that bad and they have 60,000 miles on them. I was wondering is this info correct from the dealer? Also is there anything else, like special tools I may need to change the front pads besides some wrenches and sockets? Thanks fo the help in this matter.
