Hello

I have a 2005 BMW 525iA sedan without foldable seats.
Is it possible to get this mounted from a BMW dealer or is it too late?

I hope anyone help me with this. Thanks in advance.

I'm going to say that yes this is possible. I have a 530i and before I got my subs, which take up all the space right behind the rear seats, I debated doing this as well. My dealer was looking into it, and at the time, they said they thought there was no reason why they couldn't do it. I have a feeling it's going to cost you a pretty penny though. They have to switch out the entire backseat, no part of your current back seat will work with the fold down back seat, except maybe the bottom piece. Either way, it's going to be up there in cost for parts alone. Then you've got labor and I'm sure it's going to take them the whole day to do. And at their rates that's going to be astronomical.

I asked about this in the e90 and was told it could not be done. This was because the standard seat back includes cross bracing which provides stiffening to the chassis - so it is much more than just a change to the seat.

I don't know if this is the case with the e60 as well - I think it might be though.

I?ve read in an internal paper that the e60 has the advantage against E39 that foldable rear seats are retrofitable.

In older BMW the "wall" behind the seats is for chassis stability. In the E60 the chassis is so constructed, that this steel frame is not longer needed.

I guess there are many parts to change. But it should be possible.

Thanks for all your replies. I was hoping that somebody had done this before me.
I think I am going to contact my BMW dealer.

You?re welcome. But for info: my E60 had it already. He came off the showroom.
I guess, the dealer tells you, that it is not possible. But keep us informed!
