Hi

Have found this forum very useful in figuring out how to connect my ipod to my BMW 525i. I've called my local BMW Dealer and its GBP?40 for the kit - but, GBP?134 extra for fitting.

It sounds like its just one cable that needs to be fitted - so I'm just curious if anyone has either fitted one themselves or knows how hard it would be to do so?

Thanks in advance for your help/advice.

Regards,
Donal

I can't remember for sure but I think there's some programming that has to be done too so it's not a 100% DIY project. If I were you, I'd let the dealer handle everything to be safe...

Agree with Rudy. Although the physical install is not that bad, it is a little daunting if you've never taken your car apart before (!) - besides, the AUX Input needs to be coded by your dealer anyway which takes time therefore they'll charge anyway.

Let the dealer do it but remember to take your iPod along to test to make sure they've got the wires the correct way around. Some people on this forum have had AUX inputs not working because the BMW engineer didn't realise that in some earlier instructions there was a mistake in the positioning of the wires!!!

All the Best

Hi,

Just got my Aux Input done by my local BMW dealer, should there be anything on the iDrive menu? How can I test this out?

TIA!

OK, I'm back I didn't see any AUX option on my I-Drive screen :'( Do I need to plug-in the iPod in order to see it? Need to find the right cable to plug the iPod to the Aux Input, any advice?

If its not on your list of audio sources (CD, FM, AM, WB, SAT, AUX) then your dealer did not properly code it in. Back to the dealer

Need stereo mini jack. Length up to you, but 3 foot is a good size to think about. I only remember seeing 18", 3 and 6 foot.
