First week of my ownership of my beloved 530i... and I got a flat tire...

I proceed to park the car in a nice apartment parking lot and lifted the car...
In my head, I was like this has to be the skinniest jack I have seen...
Right after I lose all the nuts, I heard a big crack sound, and the car start to drop...

All I can say is that I am glad I have this habit of not taking the wheel of until the last minute.
Otherwise, the car could have stand by the rotor!



I guess it's time to buy the hopefully better scissor jack from BMW...

Can anyone suggest places to place order? Ebay is pretty pricy at around $150~

I used mine a lot when I had it...even kept the car resting on it for a whole day when I painted my calipers...

I had done this properly...
I am usually the guy to call among my friends if they are need a tire change...

I went back to dealer to complain, and of course they questioned my method, but then since my car was a CPO, they end up blame on the previous owner.

One way or another, I will need to get a new jack and there is no way I will get the same one.
Even my faithful Nissan Sentra came with a better OE Jack = )

um... i used this to lift up my tire up really high in order to change my m5 wheels... my trunk had like 250 pound of sub box in the trunk alone with another set of m166 wheel.. (yes got flat when i got another set of m166).... no problem at all....

you might want to get like performance jack people get for like car shop... i ususally carry them no matter where i go because it is so much faster to jack the car up so easly...

I've been using the BMW jack for many years on many cars (through many winter/summer tire changeovers) and, although they look like they aren't, they are quite reliable for general tire changes or for inserting jack stands.

The design of these jacks hasn't changed much over the years so, in my opinion, it really does look like the previous owner might have done something that caused the threaded nylon part to fail (or at least that's what it looks like from the pics.) I'm betting that the prior owner tried to overtighten it by trying to lift the car higher than the jack allows or something.

I guess my point here is that if you're going to get a new jack, I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to get the same one. It sounds like you know how to use it and if you do it properly, you shouldn't have any problems at all with it. Also, getting the factory jack will allow you to store it in the space provided under the trunk mat, etc.

I've bought a few OEM parts from Garry Romani (he is a vendor here on this forum) and I'd recommend him as the only place to go for a replacement.

I'm terribly sorry that your jack failed, but very glad to see that there was no ensuing damage (other than the broken jack). Hopefully, you'll get a new one and this will never happen again.

Well, I will try to look for a same jack, just so I have one with me in the car, but at the same time, looking for an alternative scissor jack.

As many of you pointed out, I am pretty glad my 1 week old car (to me) wasn't harmed = ) Beside a little scratch on my side skirt...
