My Ride: 2010 535i
Default First Mods: 2010 E60 535i

Just looking for advice on the necessary mods to get this thing to 400whp. What I have now is the jb+ set at 50%. I have an AFE DCI on order. I am planning on turning up the boost to 75% once that gets installed. My question what other mods will I need to reach the 400hp goal? I dont want to void the warranty or wake the neighbors every morning. Only thing I wanted to do exhaust wise is catless down pipes but Im not too sure what they would sound like. I've been reading up on some of the tuners such as Cobb but would like some feedback from other, more experienced members. It took several days but the jb+ seems to have woken it up. I can feel the turbos kick in which is something that wasnt there before. My other vehicles are 04 Mach 1 with built motor/whipple E85 making 731rwhp and Im currently working on an 03 Cobra with 57mm twins. Again, any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I believe jb4 will give you more than the jb+. Sorry to inform ya though, if there is a repair needed and they detect those mods with connecting the dots its highly possible they will not work on your car and document their findings with bmw na. It's not that you can't mod your car, of course you own it but there is that risk that you can have problems at the dealer. I can tell you first hand and I know personally another member who had the jb+ and the dealer refused to work on his car. I believe they spent a lot of time documenting everything with photos etc.. Be careful and if there is something you can remove in case you have to go to the dealer it might save you from a really nasty headache.

Thanks. Even though it may be a pia I am planning on removing parts before going to the dealer. At this point only other things I'm looking at adding are the Cobb tuner and larger fmic. Not sure that will get me 400rwhp...maybe flywheel hp.

The Stage 2 Aggressive Mapping on the Cobb with DCI/CAI and an FMIC should net you about 380 rwhp. Catless DP's and an E85 mix and you should be at your goal. Shop used V2 Cobbs, as pricing has come down significantly now that V3 is out. The only real benefit to the V3 is the larger screen.

Thanks for the information. I'll keep an eye out for the v2. Do u know if a intercooler and or downpipes will void warranty? Thanks again.

Contacted Cobb in Austin today and unfortunately their intercoolers do not fit the 535i. Any suggestions on which ic to go with. I was looking at placing an order tomorrow. Thanks again for the help.

Have you been on the N54 website? You might find some advice over there.

If you want the best fitment go with the complete ER fmic/cp setup. It is designed specifically for our E60. I installed it into my car at the beginning of the month and the kit came with everything you need. Also if you do a cobb you can run the ots maps how ever spend the $200 on a etune with ProTuning freaks to get a E30 map if you have access to E85. A custom map IMO is the way to go.

The warranty question is really more about the relationship you have with the SA. Obviously the dealer has to prove that the mod you did caused the problem. Sometimes this is not the case and you have to go to battle with the dealer armed with the right info to get them to fix the issue. Just ask around in your local BMW circle who is a mod friendly SA. I've been luck that there are 3 SA's I use that are mod friendly and they make sure their tech working on my car handles business.

Here's a pic of our way too small fmic and the larger ER one.

Thanks everyone for the information and advice. I ordered the standard ER fmic kit with hks bov flange yesterday. Also found a used v2 on eBay for under 500. I do have access to e85 and have run that exclusively in my 04 Mach 1 and cobra although it's great and makes great power it degrades oil life by 50% (at least in my case). It did net me 68rwhp over 93 at 18psi. I know of others with the same results. Only other mod I would consider is downpipes. I thought about just gutting the stockers but I'd do that to my ford not my bmw...😐. Thanks again.
