Thanks to everyone for the info -- I have to leave my 545 at the dealer's this week so they can finish detailing it (it was raining the day I picked it up and has been every day since!) so I'll see if they can add the Aux input while they have it.

I just talked to my local dealer Concord BMW, and they said that I could in fact add the AUX in the glove but would not have steering wheel control due to NAV and 6 disc. Is this true? BTW the quoted me $75 for parts and 1 1/2 hours labor.

The aux input is simply a stereo audio input to the car's stereo system--you plug one end of a mini-stereo cable into it, and the other end of the cable into an audio device (MP3 player, Walkman, etc.). It will not control an iPod or any other audio device, it just allows you to listen to whatever is coming out of the audio device that is hooked up to it. And, no, this is not due to the fact that you have nav & cd changer--there's an iPod controller available for certain other BMW models, which is not compatible with nav, and requires you to disconnect the cd changer if you have one, so it sounds like your dealer is confusing the 2.

Thanks for the clarification, that is exactly what the dealer is doing getting confussed. You would think being a BMW dealer they would know this kind of stuff. But I guess us customers are the experts.

What about the pricing issue, would you say that is right in line?

Seems about what others have paid.

I'm getting mine installed this week. The part is $64 (after 10% BMWCCA discount) and the install should take around an hour per the TSB.

I always try keep in mind that the dealers have a lot of different car models & years to try to keep track of, and we can be experts on our cars...but I do get a bit frustrated when some dealers spew a bunch of BS in a very authoritative manner--and turn out to be wrong!
