...and currently the restriction is that you can not do a random search across the pages - you are limited to your random function across 50 songs. i hope this will change with fw. 2.06.

I went with the Dension ICE 500 as its more expandable and has more features than the BMW adapter. You can hook up bluetooth phones (via an adapter), get video out of the iPod (again via an adapter), it also gives you a USB and a pair of phono inputs as well. Its also really quick to browse the content on my iPod.
Hi Brian!
Where this Dension ICE500 ( http://snipurl.com/1t4n9 ?) has to be installed ?
Glovebox ?
I have Professional Nav, cd charger, BT, mp3 enabled and I would like to have the USB port like LCI .
So I'm wondering if with this module I could control the music from the button on the steering wheel as I do now with a mp3CD.
Thanks, bye!

Yes, I'm an insider.
In this case the "soon" means about 2 weeks. The content will be frozen next week, then some administration, final tests etc.
I think you will be happy with the new random handling. In this cases the problem was that the head unit forces Random.Off when you change disk or track. You can try with a normal CD, if you set "random all" that setting will be kept only till the next Track selection. So an iPod interface should know some tricks.![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)

My Ride: November 2004 E60 530D SE, Media Pack, Visibility Pack, Comfort Seats

Hi Guys,
I hope you will have patience with a newbie, and apologies if my question has already been answered elsewhere in this fine forum.
I have just taken delivery of a November 2004 E60 (530D) with media pack (Professional SatNav, Professional Radio, CD Changer & Bluetooth). I am really interested in getting a Dension Gateway 500 fitted for use with an iPod, and want to be sure I will get full control from steering wheel buttons and iDrive. The single in-dash CD drive does not seem to recognise MP3 disks. Does this mean I need an iDrive software update? If so, does this need to be done by a main dealer and does anyone know what they will charge?
I live in Edinburgh and a local ICE Specialist (Ray Smith) will supply and fit the Gateway for ?450, but I want to be sure it will be the full business.
Thanks in anticipation of your expert advice
Dave

you definitely need mp3 enabled on your i-drive, and this can be done with a software update, but be aware, the processors used at that time will suffer in processing power when you are playing mp3 songs, ie. you will not be able to quickly zoom in and out of maps and stuff like that...
450 pounds is very steep, in german we are talking about 450 eur for a full installation in cologne..

Hi guys,
I wonder if anyone has any ideas on this. Recently bought a BMW that comes with dension IPOD connector but I have other types of mp3 players and dont want to just purchase an ipod for the sake of it. Is it possible to buy a connector that converts from ipod connector to usb slot so I can plug in other types of MP3 players,
Cheers

with the dension, do you need dealer program? if so than its not worth it since the dealer charges like 350.00 to install it plus program. i would buy the dension if it does not require dealer program. can anyone confirm this?

(It means you can see the actual MP3 files under a new drive letter - eg.: "E:" or "F:" - if you connect it to Windows.)

Well, I have an 2004 plate E61 - It has no SAT NAV and has the standard Business headunit (with upgraded HIFI Speakers).
I am having real problems with the dealer who sold me the car last year. They told me that the car was able to play MP3's (tested with what turned out ot be a non-mp3 disk
) - Anyway, they have apparantly tried a software upgrade but cannot make an MP3 disk play. To say I am miffed is an understatement....
I was thinking that I may add the IPOD adapter, but it now looks like this may not even be an option.
Does anyone have an E60/61 preferably around 2004 that can
a) Play mp3's
b) Has 'only' the business Headunit.
Many Thanks
