my 545 came with the plate mount installed in the front, i was interested in getting the custom euro plates in front with different lettering than the dmv one in th e rear. My question is what kind off experience you guys have had with cops with regards to this. NeRwEEzy, your plates are what inspired me.

I did ED on my car and ran Euro plates on the front and back without any issues with cops. But I would say running Euro plate in the front will attract more attention than not running a plate at all. Depending on where you live and the cops that you run across, they probably wont give you a ticket just for that.

Being in law enforcement myslef i know this...

A patrol officer probably won't pull you over for the plates alone.. BUT they can use them as probable cause and pull you over just to mess with you. In any case, they can find probable cause if they try hard enough.

I just saw you live in Irvine. Having lived there myself for 5 years when I went to UCI... the cops will probably mess with you for these!

I sometimes drive a 1964 MBZ 220SEb coupe that I purchased in the early seventies from its German original owner. it came with its Hamburg license plates, one of which I kept on the front of the car. So that I could display my front Wisconsin plate when not in a rally or a car show, I fabricated a clip-on device allowing the US plate to cover the Euro plate. Sometime in the mid-eighties, on a trip from a rally in the southern part of the state to our cottage in north, I had forgotten to reattach the WI plate and was pulled over by a trooper sergeant. I was cited for displaying an "illegal" plate to the tune of $40.00 and forty-five minutes on the shoulder of the highway while I argued that, even though the plate was on a moving car, the violation was really not "moving violation". I'm certain that it was the foreign-as in German-car that attracted the trooper since the car immediately behind me (and had followed me for at least five miles in the heavy traffic) was a Buick that had no front Wisconsin plate but did display a cute after-market front plate that read: "Papa's Car".
