Hi guys,
I'm interested in installing the ESS TwinScrew supercharger kit to my M54 engined 525i but so far, there's no one back home with a 525i that has it.I'd like to know more about the kit other than what ESS tells you in their website.I would appreciate any inputs/comments anyone has on the kit..the pros and cons etc.
BTW,my 525i is an auto(6HP19Z)..

If you need more info start searching E46 forums. I'm sure I've seen several threads regarding this on other forums. Check this out.

well, there is actually another guy at our club(bmwclubmalaysia) that has the ESS TS2 but his is a 530i.thing is,he did quite a lot of additional mods on his engine and tranny, adding an open pod filter,a Remus sports exhaust system+de-cat,Okada plasma coils and even swapped his final dive to one from a 520i for better accelleration..he's got other stuffs as well but i can't remember what they are..
thing is,after installing the kit(with all the other mods),he's had some problems with his gearbox, which is a steptronic as well.
i don't plan to mod too much tho..just the kit,and maybe a quad backbox, that's it.main thing i'd like to know is,will the gearbox be okay when i drive the car in 'full-attack' mode.what i don't want is to have to' pussyfoot' the gearbox when driving cuz that'll spoil the experience and the reason for installing the supercharger in the first place.
the temperature here in tropical Malaysia get pretty high..and its terribly humid too.

from the searches that i've done, the ZF 6HP19 on M54 engined e60s are rated at 400Nm.if that is the case, then the ESS TS2 for the 525i should be fine with torque increased to only 360Nm..
question is,for the 530i,the TS2 is rated at 420Nm..now that's over the torque rating of the 6HP19 by 20Nm.am i missing something? is the 6HP19 in the 530i any different from the one in the 525i? different torque converters perhaps?
i doubt ESS would be irresponsible in producing kits that surpasses a safety margin.. or maybe there is a certain buffer to the figure given by ZF.

running an after market S/C kit on an auto transmission car is always risky..as far as the brand I know that Ess is quite reputable

Can you add a transmission cooler if you expect a lot of heat?

What kind of problems with the steptronic? I installed a Quaife LSD in my steptronic 545i. I wanted to change the final drive ratio but was advised not to do it because it might confuse the computer. The supercharger alone shouldn't hurt the transmission. My 545i puts out at least as much power as a supercharged 525i.

i'm using 525i diff in my 530i and i dont think there are any downside to it. torque increased by about 15% and fuel economy is maintained. u shud go for 525i diff would be interesting to hear your feedback. i think the ratio are same for 530i & 545i and 520i same as 523i & 525i...

LSD is great, highly recomend everything about it but the price
The car feels a lot faster off the line because it's putting down the power vs. the having the electronics kick in to control wheel spin. I have 18x10 BBS rear wheels with Michelin Pilots and the car launches hard with the LSD. It pins you back in the seat.
