Is there a flat (not coiled) cable for that thing? I hate coiled cables! Not only it is obstructing the view of the iDrive and A/C controls, the ashtray is always open, and that awful HUGE plug sticks out. Terrible! I'd much rather plug it into the outlet below the glovebox, and route flat wire behind the panels.

How does everybody mount their radar detectors? Is there an online sourse for the cables?
thanks!

Where did you tap for power? Did you do it yourself or at install place of sorts?

1. A standard RJ11 cord (make sure it has four wires instead of two) and a female-to-female connector are available at any RadioShack. If you are lucky you can find a color that blend into your interior.

2. Connect the cigarette lighter adapter to passenger footwell jack. Connect that to the female-to-female connector, which you can stow in the cargo net in passenger footwell. Connect your rj11 line to the female-to-female connector and then to the radar detector. You can easily tuck the line under and beside the dash and up the windshield pillar and across the headliner to a point where it can drop to the radar detector.

3. Enjoy avoiding the need to hack up the wiring in your sunroof control unit for no significant benefit!

And by the way, Chi-Town Racing, do yourself a favor and buy a level.

Tried that, I have both 4-wire RJ11 cord and fxf connector - didn't work. Maybe bad wire or connector, will try and get new one. Thanks!

You can buy a flat cable from Escort, but the rj11 and fxf should work. It works for me. Maybe you should test whether the outlet under your glovebox is working?

Apparently mu fxf was shot. I bought new one from RS and it works like a charm. Thanks for the tip!

I just had my windshield replaced yesterday. $750 bones (Long crack emanating from the side, which immediately grew to about 20 inches. Darn the I-10.) Anyway, anticipating that my cable would get in the way of the replacement work, I pulled it out from the A pillar and dashboard. As I got about halfway down the A pillar, the cable stuck. I yanked. The windshield exploded from a brand new spidering crack I had just created. Luckily, I was parked in front of the garage door for the windshield place.

The point of my story is simply, if you must remove your cable, please to take extra care in removing the cable if you used the method I had posted here. As ever, follow advice found on the Internet at your own risk.

Deleted... apparently someone replied to the thread. I didn't bother reading the date when I responded.
