[ESS has a stage 1 kit for $5300, is that the one you're thinking of? Their stage 2 kit is $6500 with an intercooler - neither are worth it IMHO. Mainly because an M5 still blows your doors off. If I am going to spend $7-12k to get to 300hp, why not just take that cash and use it for a down on an M5 and instantly get 500hp?]

exactly what i was thinking

Really? So then an S52 engine should be easier to find complete and just do a swap. Since it's from an older car it can't be that expensive (despite being an M engine).

yea u could do a swap but why not just swap pistons in a get the piston holes bored out running like 11:5:1 compression with cams and make 300 hp n/a engine to me it seems more cost affective that way instead of swapping the engine cause you'll probably have to run a standalone ems which are pricey

So how much do you suppose it will cost to bore the engine and get all the needed parts off a s52?

So is that really worth the extra headache when cost wise its no different than a supercharger? Personally if price is not any different I would choose the less intrusive method of a bolt on supercharger. But this just takes us back to "why not just trade up to a m5" if you are going to spend that much more.

And more importantly why spend so much if an M5 will still blow your doors off?

Yeah trouble is that an m5 will still cost more than what I could get for my car plus $5000. The prices of the e60 m5's still haven't come down enough.
