There are some mods out there but not much. Try searching around but looking at the m54 in e46's. I think EAS also has some parts available.

from what ive read in a e30 forums a guy swapped in a complete s52 bottom end crank rods and pistons with cams and made 300hp to me that seems a whole lot more cost affective then bolting on a 6,800 dollar ess supercharger

SC kit just seems silly, since it would give me +/- 300 whp, for $7k + install - so it still won;t make me as fast as an m5 AND my resale value drops even further. And the cams make better financial sense, but the claimed gains are still not worth the effort (for the same reason).
which is why I'll probably just do the ESS Tune for my car. It only gives 10-12 whp, but it does greatly improve throttle response, which means it approx $100 more than a sprint booster v2 whih give 0 hp gains.
I've been holding off on getting any engine work done since my car was under warranty, but now that it's not

I know this isn't an engine mod but I saw that ECS has a great price on the quaife LSD for our cars.

That is a great deal, Quaife is the best LSD around hands down. And sometimes the ability to put the power to the ground is more important that how much power you're putting down. Nice find

Now if only I could find someone to do the install for cheap, its too bad that its so labor intensive to install.
