I love my '05 545i and everything about it, esp. the drive. But I want a distinguished look, and I was thinking about some 19''s to change out the stock 18''s. Anyone have any ideas as to what kind of effect it will have on the balancing, handling, accel. on the car if I put some 19''s on? I know the weight of the wheels will affect it a little bit, but what about everything else on the car? If I just get the 19''s w/ my stock sport package springs, how will that affect my car (performance, handling, etc...) Any info. will help, I'm real hesistant as of right now to change it though.

the ride quality is not that big of a concern to me as much as performance (i.e. handling, acceleration)...any info. on that?

There is nothing wrong with running the car on 19" wheels. The ride will be a little firmer and the cornering aspects and handling will be "tighter" in feel. I have 19" rims on mine with Michelin PS2 and the differences in feel compared to standard RF 18" is huge.

If you have the funds, then do it. You will not regret it. Make sure you put decent tyres on them though!!!!

All the Best

It will ride well. Some say that 20"s look better, but 19"s are fine in my opinion, and will perform better, be cheaper, and be harder to bend than 20" wheels. Pics of mine:

You're increasing the unsprung weight of the car, which will adversely affect handling, but likely not very noticeably, unless you're a very proficient driver. The lower profile tires will cause a harsher ride and will be more prone to damage from potholes, etc. I know a few folks who put 19s on their Carreras only to switch back to 18s due to the above, but lots of folks like the 19s. Just need to consider the tradeoffs.

Oops, Sorry for the blank post, I'm a little rusyt! Merzbow, love those wheels! I just finished adding the ACS kit to my ride and have been looking all over for the right looking wheels. My car is black as well and I love the way they look on your ride. Sounds like you didn't have any problems with fit/performance etc. Any advice on where to purchase?

As far as unsprung weight - if you switch to non run flats that will likely balance the additional weight of 19s (but that depends on what rim you go with). Also if you switch to non run flats then the ride will be similar since the sidewalls will (most likely) be softer on the non run flats.

In the end - there is no significant downside if you switch the tires to non run flats but there will be performance upside depending on your choice of rim and tires.
