Yes, you can order the TV function from BMW. You can watch TV. However, you will not be able to watch DVD's with the NAV DVD player according to DD.
I think the only reason there is the DVD option in the entertainment section is earlier there was supposed to be a rear entertainment package with a DVD player.

advanced a/c is not a requirement. When the E60 was launched there would have been 3 different display types, a monochrome one (never seen in real life since all produced E60 have at least the color one), a color one (standard one), and a extra-wide color one (pro nav). Normally if you wouldn't get nav or advanced a/c one should have ended up with the monochrome one which is not suitable for TV viewing, so I guess this explains the advanced a/c requirement. Also the price increase in March this year was due to the diesels coming with a particle filter and all E60's having the color screen as the standard screen.
IIRC you can order a DVD changer which will be mounted in the trunk when you get the TV tuner, so yes you should be able to play DVD's if you get the DVD changer. I dunno if this option is already available (I think it is) but I haven't seen a car so far that has it.

just found out that from BMW you can get the tv function without sat nav. i think its too light for me to add it on now so i will have to get it fitted afterwards. Will i be able to purchase via BMW?
there are quite a few sites on the new that sell tv tuners for bmw. But i prefer the bmw original one.

abit of a compicated answer you have given me. So i cant retrofit the tv function? its only a module. quite a few sites like tvwithnav.com and navtv.com can do it. also you can retrofit the pro navi but why not the tv function?
thanks
