okay guys i know about the smg knob that alot of people hav done. But since the smg knob doesnt hav the locking feature ( the thing you have to press and then move the knob) can i throw on any knob instead of the factory? like say even one thats made for a manual? I have steptronic and the stock knob is a bit bulky, id luv to change it, even to the m5 smg one but im just tryna figure out whether any other knobs will work

i attached a pciture of a knob (i know tis smg also) but it doesnt have a press down button on the knob to select gears. Is that button thing on a kno neccesary? whats up with this stuff. educate mee! on knobs thanks guys!

Correct. You can throw any knob on there since the locking mechanism is mechanical and is integrated to the knob itself lol I said knob

for uninstalling the steptronic shifter for the preLCI, put it into neutral, grab the knob with one or maybe 2 hands, and pull straight up. I usually do it in Neutral since if it is in Park you would have to pull at a slight angle instead of straight up.

edit: man considering how the other posts went about saying "knob"....

Is that the SMG shift knob from the E46 M3? That actually looks pretty good against the steptronic boot.
