The reason I joined this forum is I am working on a school/internship-project on the rear-suspension of a BMW E60.
I am supposed to make an animated suspension in a 3D-CAD program (solidworks).
I was hoping some of you guys could push me in the right directions to find some info/photo's/measurements of the suspesion.
All of your suggestions are welcome! In the meanwhile I'm gonna hang around here and gather some first info..

I was thinking that the images in realoem.com would be a good start as well, I'm not sure where you might be able to find the exact measurements of things though maybe someone might be nice enough to donate there old suspension to you so that you can make the measurements yourself.

Hi

i know what you are trying to do. how are you proposing to show the air going through the ducts from the pump? the system works based on 2 position sensors which is fixed btw the car body and the rear axle, which to tell an electronic air spliter to divert air pressure to the left or the right hand side of the Pneumetic air spring to lift up the rear of the car. the electronic air spliter is like a one way air in and 2 air outlet. air pressure from the pump itself and goes into this spliter. when both position control sensors reache its set height, it stops the pump to continue producing pressure. wise versa if one side is not reaching its desired height, the pump will continue to work, or if it is too height, the spliter will release excessive air pressure through its ball value.
if you want to draw it all, it will take you some times and it is not a single unit system. it consists of a pump, a air spliter, and a air spring.

good luck.. Gary.

@ gary,

I'm not trying to fully simulate all the principals of the suspension.. the prupose is to build a principal model of the main mechanical parts, so I can simulate movement of the suspension-parts..
I already told my superviser this is going to be a nasty job, cause we don't have a real suspension to measure it's measurements and degrees of freedom of motion..

thans for the explenation though!
