As many of you will know, today was the day that DMS came to visit me to perform remaps on my new 535d E60 and my wife's 3.0d X5 E70. Having now had the chance to drive both cars for a fairly considerable distance post-remap, I can say that I am seriously impressed.
First, the X5. We went out for dinner, (me, wife, three kids) and the difference was obvious. Acceleration from 0 was not amazingly different, but still noticeable, but the real power came at 1,500rpm plus where "in cruise" acceleration was great. It's still a big huge heavy car so is never going to drive like a sports car, but for a car that size, the performance is extremely impressive.
Now, the 535d. It's a monster. Anybody thinking about getting the DMS remap, do it. The power is not "kick in the butt", it is just constant and smooth and effortless. 40-90mph in something like 5.5 seconds?! 0-60 ... god knows ... but I will gladly sit at the front of a set of traffic lights knowing that I am pretty much guaranteed to beat anything that dares sit along side me. I felt confident in the 535 before the remap, but the increase is phenomenal. I also have to thank everyone who talked me in to getting the 19" wheels without runflats. In my unmapped 530d with 17" runflats, I was always wheel spinning and sliding round during "spirited" driving. In the 535d even with the remap, it sticks like glue. Sure, I can get the lights to flash and the traction control to taunt me with "hey, if it wasn't for me, you'd be dead now", but the grip is fantastic. I reckon if you had a remapped 535d with runflats you'd shred the tyres.
I don't think there is really much else I can write about it that probably hasn't been said before - other than to say thanks to everyone on the forum for convincing me to get it done. I hear that the effect on some of the smaller engined cars is even more noticeable, if you have something like a 520d and get a 40 / 50 bhp increase, it's probably going to be more obvious than a 40 / 50 bhp increase in a 535d.
What amazes me most is just how smooth the power delivery is - I remember my Jaguar V8 would slam you back in to the seat for the first few metres of acceleration then gradually lose power. The 535d just pushes you back in refined kind of "you might like to sit back a bit, this could get ugly" way, and you stay back, until you either wimp out and back off or run out of road.
That's enough typing. I'm off for another drive. I'm up to 1,050 miles now. Only another 150 to go and then the run in period will be finished. Whatever that means.

I meant to ask you to enquire what DMS say about the gains on a 525d LCI but forgot!
I am seriously considering it though. Claims from others are about 235bhp and 490Nm.
Keep the shiny side up! or as Rihanna would say, "Shut up and ...

Russ, glad you like it. How much did it end up costing if you don't mind me asking?

Hi
I emailed DMS regarding the remap on my car. He said that DMS would take the E60 LCI 525d from 197 BHP and 400 Nm to 245 BHP and 530 Nm.
I am definitely considering this once the run in period is completed.

Nice one. What sort of guarantee goes with the remap? And is there any violation of BMW's warranty? And the insurance?
I always reckoned that remapping took it's toll on the turbo's well before their sell-by date and from what I gather, there have been a certain number of early turbo failures in standard non-remapped cars to start with. Just helping it along the path of destruction to an early grave I assumed. Thats why I'd be a little nervous of doing it to my own car (as distinct from a company supplied car).
When the car is eventually moved on to it's next owner (MAD nothwithstanding) is it usual to return the car to factory settings or leave as is?
