i was able to put my grills on today.. took about 30 to 40 minutes... i used the info from forum.. they werent kidding about those side clips... luckily i was able to fit my hands through the grill and use some medical tools and pop the grill out without breaking any clips..after that you can easily remove the other by reaching in... anyways i am very pleased with the enhancement...ericde60 Black Kidney Grill-grill.jpg

Hello to everybody,

I?m new to this forum and, browsing the topics, found this thread on black grilles on the E60 quite amusing.

Are those of you considering a change aware, that in its home market Germany the black grille is identifying the smallest model of the 5 range, the 520d. From MY 2006, only this 4-cylinder diesel still has a black grill, all others are chrome. The 520d being a typical company fleet car, a lot of owners try to change the grill to "un-identify" the budget car.

So for those, who, after this bit of information, still consider a change, looking on German ebay for a black grill, might be successful.

I think you misunderstood the problem. What they meant with Black grille is black on both the inside slaps and outer frame. the lower model has black inner slaps but still chrome frame.

As for my car, I painted only the frame to black, but still use the chrome inner slaps...just ot give a sleeker and different look.

see picture for details.

Well the black grill suppose to give your car a sporty look and that's the same for the shadowline trim. Back in the days when Bimmer paint their lower model's side mirror black people think is ugly now black is in again.

i was able to reach the inside side clips lft and rt with small hemostats and pushed the clip and pulled the gril at the same time... then once you get that you can reach in to pull the other out...ericd
