Hi Steve .
Glad I am not alone in looking for these bulbs . Thought I was losing the plot . As you say some of the suggestions of the Mtech jobs just won't fit as there is no place for them to go in the headlamp unit . Once you have taken out the headlamp unit a person with small hands will be able to wrestle the bulbs out . Took me about 40 mins but that was taking the headlight unit out & I was worried about not mullering the paintwork .

I'll pm John and see what he can do with my present bulbs . I find it hard to believe that BMW weld these bulbs in so you can't replace them & have to resort to buying a complete bulb / holder ...... unless us halogen users are funding the new F10

Cheers , Martin

Hi Martin,

Yeah, I thought I was the only one with the problem to start with!

Be sure to post how you get on with John, and you have to post pics if you do get the replacements!

Nice car btw.

Steve.

I'm not sure what the part number is, but the bulb can be taken out of the assembly.

From what I have found out tonight it seems that if you have an LCI spec car , with halogen lights , you will find you have the " old bulbs " in the angel eye assembly . One bulb / pair so 2 in total in the car . They are not the 501 wedge bulbs as some sites suggest and the bulbs are welded into the bulb holder and cannot be removed . If it blows you need the complete assembly , ie holder and bulb.

The " new bulb " style will not fit in the LCI version of mine and after calls to several specialist I understand there is no upgrade currently available as an off the shelf swop . The " new bulb "only fit the pre LCI versions . The only way to upgrade this bulb is to have one custom made . I am currently looking into this and may well be sending my lights across The Pond for this upgrade .

hold on, this is getting a bit complicated.

isnt it a necessary that when the bulb blown u need the complete assembly i.e. holder and the bulb? <--- does that mean the whole thing on ur pic?

if so, thats right isnt it? u dont just replace the bulb inside the 'that thing'?

and how come the new bulb dont fit the the LCI version. its designed for the lci version isnt it? thats weird.... so u have tried to fit the new bulbs in ur lci headlight n it wont fit, right? do u mind taking some pictures of your headlight n post it up here please?

so that means the PRE-lci spec car's Angel eye WILL be brighter than the LCI car? that doesnt make sense to me at all.. someone please clarify this! lol

wow, this thread got quite confusing LOL.

LCI Halogen models cannot use ANY MTEC V2, RDash, AiB, MyCarr, PIAA, etc etc. I have to custom build these. I need the factory bulb and wire in a new bulb and resistor, soldering, etc.

If you want HID kits, that's only for the low beams, fog lights etc.

E60 535d AM Sport . Full engine remap to 345 hp 700mn
And WOW that's a beast!!!

Yes the whole bulb holder and bulb come as a sealed unit " old bulb ".The bulbs are welded in place on these. Not to expensive to replace . Just spoken to the parts dep't and they are £8-75 each. I will be ordering two of these & sending them to the USA to have them upgraded .

If you get in touch with John , brabusw209amg ,( hope you don't mind me dropping your name John ) he will provide more details .When I come to swop my lights over I'll take a pic of the headlamp unit and post it to this forum.
