Hi everyone..
i was wondering if its ok to do a little job on exhaust pipes? thing is my car is diesel! and the 2 pipes are so ugly looking! pointing down. i know that late 2004 models have PARTICAL filter in them, and the exhaust pipes are looking straight! which looks pretty ok...

Yes, yes you can!

I literally cut off my 2 stock pipes off of my stock muffler and welded back on a pair of beautiful 3 1/4" double walled R&D exhaust tips in their place. Love it! Le Mans style.

Since my car has the same ugly exhaust I wonder what LeMans style is and how you did it.
Do you have some pics on how it loks and did you have to take the exhaust from the car?

My exhausts looked different way as I run an 2008 E60 525i Sport LE

but i didnt like their tiny look on an ///M style looking car and welded this MG-Racing cheap exhaust at the market as the real ///M5 bucket/exhaust wouldnt fit

here's a pic where they cut and welded the new bucket with the exhaust tips

so i take it there's no extra noise coming from the exhaust because you never changed the back box?

It sounds quite cool it has that rumble and people ask me "is that a 545?" One day I will post a video... cant get too it need a good camera with proper mic so it can deliver the sound correctly to the audience

i take it you have the single oval exhaust on the 520d? Thats what i have and im really not happy with the way it looks. Want to do a cheap mod and not go for an actual exhaust system. The only option i found to make it look a bit better then it is now is a chrome slip cover that fits straight over the existing pipe. its an OEM part that can be ordered from the dealer.

The older 520d has the pipe's pointing down for a reason as they don't have a dpf(particlate filter)so produce quite a bit of smoke when given some hammer,if you put some straight pipe's on it be prepared for some smoke cloud's to blind other driver's ,the Oval single pipe was introduced to car's with a dpf.
