i,m looking to change from run flats to ordinary tyres but will need to buy an extra wheel as a spare.Loads on e bay but mostly from older models,i've been told that the stud pattern is different by one person and another was going on about the offset being different and would rub on the strut. Can anyone tell me for sure weather they fit or not?

My car came with runflats AND a spare. Did BMW stop doing this at some point?

I know one issue for you with those wheels will be the hub bore size, which is larger on the E39 vs the E60, which means that for the wheels to line up with the bolt holes, you will need hubcentric spacing rings (not expensive) to slide on the bore of your hub before you put the wheel on (these help center the wheel). I believe the bolt pattern is the exact same, as I was looking to get a set of E39 wheels for my winter set. I'm not sure what the offsets are.

They should fit, but as 1esquire mentioned, the hub bore is different between the two. It's bigger on the E39, which means you'll need hub rings for your E60. Stud pattern is the same... 5x120.

Just to clarify, you are looking for a spare to put in the trunk, right? If so, the space in the trunk will only fit a small temporary spare, not a full-sized wheel.

As for 1esquire's comment, while U.S. cars with run-flats are still required to come with a spare, in Europe and other parts of the world, BMW excludes the spare when the car is equipped with run-flats...

I have an E39 before my E60, I kept my summer wheels on my retired E39 and tried it on my E60. They fit no problem with the offset, atleast it doesn't rub on to the struts. But, it won't be hub centric. The Hub on the E39 is slightly bigger than E60 therefore you will need a hub centric ring especially in the front. If I recall it right, it is 74.1mm with E39 vs 72.4mm with E60 Hub size. I hope this help.
