From all the information that I have gathered, E32/E34/E38 wheels should fit the E60. My dealer does however state that this is not so. Has anyone here any practical experience in this - i.e. have you tried these wheels on the E60? Would be great to be able to buy used wheels for the winter tires...

I will probably put on my 19" E39 wheels this weekend.

As you probably know you have to use center rings because the center of the E60 is 72.5 mm and 74.1 mm on the E39.

Will be back when I?ve tried them on.

Yes the center bore is different.
The offset is et 20 all around so they should fit with the rings.

cidair,

I know that the E39's need the center rings to fit, which is why I would like to use the E32/E34/E38 rims, which should have the same center as the E60. According to Tire Rack, the E34 rims should fit - by I don't like that BMW says that they will not fit.

I think the problem is the offset and not the center bore in this case.

The center bore will right, but the offset shoul be as close to et20 as possible.

I think those other models had offset et35.

The offset on the other ones is around ET20 according to the manual (except E34 525ix). I have seen on other boards that some have had problems fitting other wheels due to the size of the break callipers...

Why would that be problem if you are going from a smaller to a larger diameter wheel? Unless you are not?

I would go for 16" wheels, which is the same as the original E60 wheels. I can see that it would be less of a problem if I would go for 17" wheels for example.
