I've been playing around with the Dynolicious application just a little bit and although I know there are a couple threads here talking about the application, I thought we should start a thread where we can post configuration settings, results, screen shots, etc. of some timed runs and skidpad tests.

Keep in mind that I'm not advocating any unsafe or irresponsible behavior on public roads or other unsafe areas and this isn't meant to be a competition to see who can post the highest numbers! My main reason for starting this thread is to gather and compare information and tips from other users of the software since there's very little documentation included with it.

What types of weights are people using for their cars? Is anyone using a drivetrain loss figure other than 0%? Where are you mounting the device in the car (to secure it from moving, etc?)

I don't have any decent results or screenshots to post just yet (they got cleared somehow) but I was able to get very close to 1.0g in cornering the other day -- I'm sure there was much more left so if I try again, I'm sure I'll cross that threshold...

As far as curb weight, my 2008 550i is 3968 pounds. I don't know if there's any published "unladen" weights for the car (haven't bothered to look) so if someone has a more accurate figure, please let me know. I suppose I could calculate the weight of the fuel (I seem to remember 6 pounds per gallon from my flying days) and obviously add some weight for myself, etc. to come up with as accurate a number as possible but when I did just that, I didn't seem to get very reasonable results.

Okay everyone, let's see some numbers!

(For fun, here are two screenshots in case you are unfamiliar with this cool little toy...)

But isn't 1 G the normal pull of gravity at rest?

I'm not a physicist but I'm thinking that yes, 1G in a downward direction is the normal pull of gravity but in the case of measuring a car's performance, acceleration, braking, and lateral (cornering) forces are all parallel to the ground so at rest, they're all 0G but there's 1G holding you to the ground...

1G down, yes but I assume the software measures lateral Gs.

Rudy, just follow the 18 wheelers to the nearest truck stop and use their scales.

Here you go, Rudy, here's the manual.

For drivetrain loss, I think it should be 15% to 20%.

I think you're find just sticking to published curb weight, as I understand it this is meant to assume the car has a full tank of gas and all fluids, but no passengers or cargo.

For mounting, I'm going to try the mounting unit I use with my Blackberry Curve (which has GPS and navigation) and swivel the holder so the iPhone is flat and pointing in the direction of travel. Haven't tried it yet, buy will report back when I do.

It does, both the iPhone and iPod Touch use a 3-axis accelerometer.

I just bought the new iPod Classic yesterday to replace my 4th gen. The new Genius feature is awesome, I have close to 10,000 tracks on my iPod and with the genius feature enabled the iPod comes up with some awesome playlists (by relating tracks from your own library to the track you choose as the basis). Works really well, it comes up with some phenomenal results. Been listening to some stuff I haven't played in years!
