Good Morning All:

I have a 2007 550i (pre LCI). My car has a sun roof. I have been wanting to install a DVD player for the kids in the back seat and I would be greatful if you guys would recommend a DVD player. I don't really care about the Idrive integration but if the price is right for the whole system, I may do that. Thanks in advance my friends.

Wrong thead, I'm afraid. This is for the F10's, not E60's.

I have been thinking on this exact same thing.
In my case is a E61 with panorama roof, so roof mount DVD player is out of the question.
Other possibility is a center arm rest mount or a headrest mount (integrated or not).

Not sure about the best option.

I picked up a portable DVD unit for my car(s)from Target a couple of years back for $200.00. Came with duel DVD player, 2 10" screens, 2 headphones, and 2 remotes. The kids in the backseat can either watch one movie on both screens, or they can watch their own individual movie on their own screen. Plugs right into the rear cig lighter, and the screens attach to the back of the headrest with a velcro strap. Love the portability.

Really didn't want to install permanent screens in my headrest, or roof, and I usually used rent a cars for trips to Cali when I didn't use my personal cars.

depends on what you want...you can go with the portable type or go to your local car stereo shop and get those headrest replacement with built in monitors. I forgot the brand but my cousin got this new brand for his Escalade, 2 headrests and DVD player for around $ 500 installed, at least in San Jose. Of course the leather of the new headrest does not match perfectly with the interior leather but I would have to say it's around 80% to 90%. I checked it out already and they have variety of color that does seems to match pretty well. Can't beat the cleanness of a built in headrest monitor.
