Got a set of Dunlop WinterSport 3Ds about 2 weeks ago from Tire Pros in North Kingston RI ($700 set balanced/installed on my OEM rims) and for the past week have been using them under all sorts of winter conditions - rain, sleet, snow, deep snow, packed snow, and ice. They are indeed awesome. I was able to easily navigate areas that I got stuck in my 4x4 Ford F150 - including my driveway!!!! (the Ford had all season M&S tires). Thanks to all on the Forum who have been recommending the Dunlops. I'm sure others are just as good - but the Dunlop's definitely work great.

If you go to Tire Pros - ask for Steve. No problems what so ever with the job - not so much as a scratch on the rims!!!!!

Cool pics....glad you are enjoying the xi. I have the same tires, but I haven't driven in the snow yet....looking forward to it, RWD albeit.

I don't know how much you lose by having RWD - but I think the snow tires make a big difference in and of themselves. I intentionally stopped the car in front of my house to take the pics, and then got back in and drove away without the least bit of slipping. NONE!!!! It was like there was no snow at all. Then I drove my truck in the same place, stopped, and promptly got stuck. My sons had to push me to get going. Admittedly the truck was not weighted in the back which would have made a difference. I think snow tires on the truck would have made a difference as well - but the bottom line was the 535xi with Dunlops has been unstoppable throughout a crazy week in New England!!!!!

I think one additional advantage is the increased ride height of the xi ... even great tires will lose traction if the car is lifted by the snow.

This will be my second winter driving with them, and they are great snow tires. I have a pretty much uphill trip all the way home from the train station, and some nights I'm home after the crews have done their last plowing. My '08 535xi with the Dunlops haven't faltered or failed me yet!

We got about 12" of snow here in Dutchess County on 12/19, and after finishing the last Christmas party of the night and heading home after 11pm, it was a very reassuring ride home and up my driveway (without having to re-clear the new 5" that fell after my son cleared it earlier)

I have the same wells here in Finland and i have to say that is little bit risky when i drive in Ice roads the braking is very looooong and handling is very difficult .in the fresh snow the handling is much better .

The real advantage is the XI.
This morning with RWD and 275 winter tyres, I was still and the car slid to start in 1st gear. So I engaged the 2nd and it went up, but I thought with winter tyre I could do everything but it isn't true. Simply exit from difficult situations and brake decently, but nothing more.
