a useful modification:

These are the part numbers that I have:
Z4 cup holder
Item# 1: 51 16 9 173 501 (Cup Holder)
Item# 2: 51 16 9 181 369 (Cover Black)
Drink Cup Holder on the passenger side - removable-images.jpg
similar part on the 1 series:
Cup Holder Support Lower: 51 16 9 122 656

511 691 91369 - bracket
511 621 56851 - cup holder
Drink Cup Holder on the passenger side - removable-bmw-1-series-6b.jpg

One thing I hate about my E60 is how the two cup holders block the air vents, this mod is actually something I'd consider doing.

They dont block the air vents, as the vents can be moved up or down, anyway their designed infront of the vents to keep ur drinks cool on hot days...
