nope, you're correct in saying the linkage is mechanical Rudy, but that's only to get it moving out of P and R (this is overcome with pressing on the brake) - like the M5 shift kit.
The LCI shifter can be MOUNTED on the step, but would be nice to get the lighting working to schedule > that's were Fred would come in...![Tongue](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/tongue.gif)

The lighting schedule might not be difficult at all, but if it involves lots of soldering, solid-state hardware, caps, resistors, etc., it might not worth or make sense to make it commercially available.
Even with Step -> M5, it's quite simple, but still not worth the time spending on soldering. It takes a full hour to make the wiring harness.
Technically speaking, we can park car in N and use same shifter as LCI for just . R, N, D, D/S, Manual mode - no P. This can be achieved by disabling the interlock latch that locks shifter from shifting out of P when brake not apply and key not in ACC mode. We shall use N when we park the car just like manual transmission. I don't recommend this but some member outside US do this using M5 shift knob and bezel.
Go back to this matter that if we decided going with LCI sport shifter along with new bezel, we need to replace the woodtrim. But, I'm not sure if new and old woodtrim are compatible in terms of fitment.
If you just want LCI sport shifter installed one existing Steptronic shifter bezel, I think we can do it, but I'm not sure unless I how the body constructed under the leather.
