I had retrofitted several VO(FA)s on currently v38 based E60 LCI.
One day I visited dealership. After connecting ISTA to my car, they said it was not possible to communicate.
They did not explain why. So I could not get a upgrade.
Anybody explain to me why?
I suspect this flow.
While BMW dealership maintain the VO list inside BMW main data base, they compare it with my added VO list from CAS & LMA.
If any difference, they decide it's an unauthorized retrofit. So they reject it.
There are standard retrofits and non-standard ones like COMBOX retro to E60 LCI.
Am I wrong? Maybe another reason?
If so, what is the solution for?
You know, I can not take apart everything I made and go back to the initial state of 1st purchasing
due to complex hardware and coding work added.
No more upgrade forever?

Yes, I've been doing coding and flashing by myself with OPS, WinKFP, etc.
But I don't always have good luck during flashing.
In worst bricked ecu case, I have to ask dealer corrections or replacements something.

dealers are VERY quick to find a reason to give up on updating as the risks are high. either find a different dealer or an indy that can program. but ask yourself, what do you need newer software for? V38 isn't bad. the list of things added has grown smaller and smaller with each release.

it's not so much that they store what your car's VO had- it's that they have "authorized" VOs based on build date, etc. When I went to retrofit the CCC at the dealer, (back in 2008 before we had the tools accessible we have today!) I ended up having to buy a replacement, nearly identical LCD because the one I had bought had a different part # than what the ISTA was expecting. Never mind it's the same monitor with a different part #.

I'm concerned that some retrofit guide says to do retrofit coding after making ISTA up-to-date at dealer.
