Does anyone know what are these for? or Where they plug into? They are located behind the headlight.

 

I'm going to guess that its a vent for something, and as far as it connecting to anything the answer is no.

I thought they were to allow air into the headlight to remove any condensation

 

I don't quite understand why they will leave these open for air to flow in. Wouldn't this cause condensation?? The reason why I ask is that I'm getting condensation in my headlights and I think this is why. I had a short drive back home and it was barely foggy. When I got back I see condensation, so I'm guessing this is the problem causing the condensation. What if I seal this up? Bad idea?

 

If you have moisture in your headlight and you seal this the moisture will never go away. This vent is letting air into your headlight and allowing the moisture to dissipate. I seriously doubt this would be the cause of the moisture in your headlight since every single e60 out there has this feature.

My "expert" opinion is that your headlight is not sealed perfectly after the Orion install.

 

It's different set of headlights, no mods on it. However, I sometimes experience some condensation with that too.

 

It will allow moisture to escape. The heat of the headlight will allow the moisture to vaporize and and escape. Of course if you have too much water in there it will take a several cycles for it to escape.

 

I had this problem when I first got my E60. Make sure the caps covering the bulb access panels are secured tightly. After that a few longer journeys with the xenons on and I don't have any condensation in the headlamps. Do not seal the vent pipe or you will trap the water inside the headlight.

My sister's X5 has the same problem, seems a common issue with BMW headlights.
