since you have a 2004 you dont need them since they are not built in.
and where are they instead?

I have a 2004 car. Our cars calculate diameter of each tire. No need for sensors. Once the rubber valves & wheels are installed, set via iDrive the tire monitoring. Be patient because it takes some miles to drive in order to measure the diameter of each wheel. If you get a flat, diameter changes and you get notified that one tire is damaged. We cannot say which one, but with non-RFT - you will see which one.
