Were you able to install yourself? How difficult was it? If the dealer installed, how much did they charge?
I Guess maximum 20min of installation time!?
I?ve been working a bit in my engine compartment for my modifications, and remove the air filter box is done in a blink of an eye.

Someone already tried to get the parts... it's local pick up only so I'm SOL.
But I got the badge today!!! (hook up from the parts guy, he had one extra a customer didn't want.. score)
I actually needed 3 more points from Dinan to get it, but after spending my money at their shop, and having 2 seperate ECU upgrades and the CAI, he hooked me up.
Will be installing it this weekend, pics to follow.
I'm not a serious wrench turner, so I had my BMW shop do the work and Dinan also has another ECU flash, probably something to do with o2 / fuel mixture or something. Not really sure about that one.
You have to remove the front of the car to install all this stuff, it was just more conveniant for me to have them do it.
Total cost $1600.00 usd, kind of pricy, but I'm very happy with the mod and the extra performance.

If you have to remove the front, then it is not 20min work.
In that case a couple of hours would be more appropriate.
The front removal, was that for the new intake tube attachment?

Time charged was 3 hours for the intake. That is what is quoated in the books.
Software update was .5 hrs. (was not charged for this)
They needed to take off the front of the car for the hose on the passanger side that fits behind some *stuff* and then goes down to pick up the cold air from the front / bottom of the car.
I do not see any other way for them to do it, it's shoehorned in there. But I do not pretend to be a mech. (although I do play one on tv )
I'm sure there is 100 ways to skin a cat, this is the process my shop uses to install the part(s). I am not charged anymore then is what is quoated to me.
You know how that game is played... took them 1 hour for a book rated 3 hours.. you will get charged 3 hours labor. But it works both ways.
and if anyone is from the midwest.. goto the Meet and Greet section and fill out my "Poll" so we can get something started. I'm getting tired of looking at the SoCal Meet and Greet pics.
thanks again

I wonder if there is an issue with rain or water getting sucked into the intake. I know this is a common concenr amongst CAI that pull air in from anywhere below the original factory airbox. Can you see where the secondary intake pipe comes from? Any Pics?

I'll see if I can get under there and get some pics for you.
Or take it back to my shop so they can get it up on a lift and "explain" to me how this all works...(dumb customer with too much cash in his pocket act)
Then I can get some pics for sure
