+2 on the RPI exhaust for the 550. The sound is amazing and the dyno-proven power gains are impressive. One of my friends on the board has it in their 550 and I have driven it. The sounds is just soooo much more racy and aggressive than stock.

A lot of folks on this forum are BIG RPI fans. Based on what I have read they make quality parts but I'm still very satisfied with my Dinan. I have installed a lot of parts on a lot of cars over the years, in my experience I can honestly say that Dinan makes the ONLY parts that fit as well as OEM. Dinan parts are expensive but I think they are worth it.

I have owned two sets of dinan exhausts on my 535 and m5. I ended up selling both due to lack of power. Nothing against dinan, they make great products. It's just that cost was too high compared to the gains or lack thereof. I paid 1800 plus install for the 535 and 2800 plus install for the m5. I believe the gains were only 5 whp/6 ft lbs torque. There are many exhausts that cost less with much higher gains. I would ask yourself what is the most important to you, sound or performance? If you prefer a more subdued sound then get the dinan. If you prefer performance I think we all know which exhaust you need to get. Most members will say get a specefic product becuase it's the most popular or they like the brand name. Ive gone through so many different products and systems for both bmws, only to sell them all and end up with others. Do your research and homework before you make your decision. good luck and I hope this helped.

My Ride: A Car
dinan is more quiet and yields less HP
RPi is a bit louder but yields MORE HP
IMO, the E60 has excellent sound deadening so I would go with the RPi. My exhaust is LOOOUD on the outside but quiet on the inside.

If you have stock, I would definatly go with the RPI.
If you had bought a car and it had the Dinan on it, then I would just keep it on there.
Since you are buying a new exaust... GO RPI.
With all the members that have RPI on there 545's and 550's, you can't go wrong with this amount of positive feedback.
I do like the "tighter tone" on the RPI compaired to the Dinan.
Just my 2cts.. GL with the Modding.
