In addition to Dinan, I just took a look at Vishnu's Stage 0 ECU remapping and I think it increases the hp by close to the same as the stage 2 dinan but is cheaper by quite a bit.
I have a couple of friends with the Vishnu tune and they really like it. I think the one thing that would be more preferable for the Dinan software is the warranty.

The 550 and 535 output numbers are at the rear wheels, BMW is required by federal law to do it this way. I looked at the Dinan White Papers and it lists a 10.8% drivetrain frictional loss at 4300 RPM and 12.2% loss at 5700 RPM. That adjusts the 421 ft/lbs at 4300 RPM to 380 rear wheel ft/lbs and adjusts the 384 hp at 5700 RPM to 343 rear wheel HP.
Pennetta,
I have read many of your posts and you're pretty knowledgeable but sorry to tell you this time you're in error and that the numbers presented by BMW for the 550i (360 hp) and 535i (300 hp) are crank horsepower numbers.

I'm not sure where you're getting this info but BMW numbers are not at the wheel, they are crank numbers just as all other manufacturers. For example, BMW's spec for the M5 is 500hp but everyone that has dynoed their car have gotten anywhere from below 400rwhp to about 430rwhp, depending on which type of dyno. Some dynos are more conservative like the Dyno Dynamics machine and some will show better numbers like Dynojets. It also depends on the setup. Dinan's dyno has probably one of the biggest fans out there similar to something they'd use in a wind tunnel. It's supposed to more closely replicate real world conditions. On the other hand, the place that dynoed my car had one of the smallest fans I've ever seen and it was only pointing at my lower grill at the radiator.

As for DT losses, the 15-18% I spoke of is just a general guideline and have been used as a rule of thumb for years. I guess technology has improved quite a bit and DT losses have decreased through better engineering. If those are the numbers Dinan believes to be the correct values, that would be awesome.
I assure you its been rear wheel horse power for many years, the old '70 Hemi Cudas were crank HP. I think it changed in the mid 1970's but they just changed it again for 2008 where you have to connect the a/c, water pump, alternator just like you were driving the car. Just like quarter mile times, Dyno test are subject to altitude, humidity, and temperature but 400 sounds very low but I don't know the circumstances. The M's do have a 400 HP mode and a 500 HP mode that you select in idrive.

I am getting Dinan Stage II installed on Thursday on my 535i. I will post my opinions after the weekend. I am expecting a very noticeable performance improvement. We will see.

Sorry to beat a dead horse....but you are incorrect. ALL manufacturer's hp and torque numbers are at the crank. That's why people use dynos to get their wheel hp. I know dynos are subjective to a lot of conditions that's why they apply correction factors to normalize the numbers. The highest numbers I've seen have been around 430rwhp for a stock M6. Even highly modified M5s/M6s with mods like mine have registered around 460rwhp-480rwhp. If you read articles on modded cars they will usually tell you if they're quoting power at the wheels or at the crank and will also tell you what the manufacturer's crank hp numbers are for comparison.

And yes, I know about P400 and P500 on the M5.

Yes, please do. Their business may depend on it.

And if you could, please give estimated times on 0-60 and such.

Now you made me look it up and you know what, you are absolutely correct. You just blew my mind. SAE J1349 standard, which I just found out is not a requirement for Auto manufacturers just a guide, is at the flywheel. This time you beat a dead horse and it came back alive. The best news is my 384 hp and 421 ft/lbs compares directly with the 550's 360/360, I thought I was at 343/380 in comparison. I've never been so happy being wrong.
Thanks for your persistance in setting me straight.
