The sounds? Well, at start-up, the rumble is to die for! The noise is throaty yet mellow, but not obnoxious or painfully loud. You basically hear the exhaust from idle to approx. 2000 rpm. After 2000 rpm, the exhaust grows silent ... barely detectable at freeway speed (60 mph+) as long as you have the tach above 2000, but any lower than that, and you'll definitely hear it. I found myself using a higher gear at lower speeds just to hear the sound. The Dinan exhaust is the best of both worlds ... silent when cruising, and throaty around town. Well worth the money!
Congrats on your new exhaust system! Definitely agree with you here regarding the exhaust note it yields. It's just about perfect - nice throaty growl, yet remarkable civil also. It's truly music to our ears whenever we turn her over for sure! ENJOY & BEST REGARDS!

Thanks for all the kind replies, everyone! Now I'm kicking myself for not getting this any earlier! Just got back from a mountain drive and all I can say is that my 550 has taken on a whole new character. The growl is just "PURRRR"fect without being annoying.

As for performance gains, not a significant jump. Dinan claims a 7 hp increase over stock. However now that the back-pressure is significantly reduced, I do notice a more smoother and quicker throttle response at lower RPMs that wasn't there before. And as for placing the stock tips on a Dinan exhaust ... not gonna work. The Dinan tips are longer lengthwise with a bigger bore, whereas the stock tips are short with a smaller bore.

And yes, sound clips won't do it justice until you hear it in person!!

Glad to read about another satisfied Dinan customer. I've been in love with my Dinan exhaust since the day I've put it on. I completely agree with you that it sounds awesome. I really love starting up the car to hear the throaty growl and then settling to a nice purrr....

BTW, off topic but where are you in the Bay Area? What do you think about coming to the San Luis Obispo Meet with us on Nov 18th?

Monterey County, actually. I wish I could go to SLO, but I'll be on a well-deserved vacation in Vegas!

Ok.. I agree. Let's move the meet to VEGAS! then we can grab some of the arizona peeps too. And we can gamble all our money away. It will be great.
