My Ride: 2011 E92 335i M-Sport 6MT
Finally took the plunge after a month of contemplation. Went over to Dinan Engineering headquarters in Morgan Hill to have the Dinan exhaust installed on my 550i. May be quite a penny, but it's damn well worth it! Phillip Briseno there gave me a VIP tour of the facilities and all their special project cars in the parking lot and in the garage. Saw Steve Dinan's own E60 M5, the new M Roadster, a Cooper S, and a pair of E39 M5s getting superchargers installed. Plus I got to watch the installation from start to finish right in the garage. The tech started off by literally sawing off the old exhaust. Next, some painstaking measurements were taken, followed by more cutting to get the length perfect. A new exhaust clamp was added to fit the new exhaust onto the remaining piping (no welding was done), then hardware installed to bolt that sucker down. After installation, the tech took the car out for a test run to make sure nothing was rattling, then it was mine to take home (after paying the bill). I have to give major props to Dinan for their hospitality in making a customer like myself feel like I was one of them. Service and professionalism, not to mention their love for BMWs, was top-notch.
The sounds? Well, at start-up, the rumble is to die for! The noise is throaty yet mellow, but not obnoxious or painfully loud. You basically hear the exhaust from idle to approx. 2000 rpm. After 2000 rpm, the exhaust grows silent ... barely detectable at freeway speed (60 mph+) as long as you have the tach above 2000, but any lower than that, and you'll definitely hear it. I found myself using a higher gear at lower speeds just to hear the sound. The Dinan exhaust is the best of both worlds ... silent when cruising, and throaty around town. Well worth the money!

Shot this in the dark ... sound/video quality isn't that great, but it'll give you an idea of how close it is to the actual sound ...

My Ride: 2013 M5 - Sakhir Orange / Black Leather.
Congrats. Sounds great. I've been thinking about putting in on as well. Any performance gain noticed? Can you put the stock exhaust tips on the Dinan exhaust?

The sound clip does not do any justice
Hear it in person will grab your heart!
Congrats!
I'm still waiting for my next generation Dinan free flow exhaust which avoid painstaking measurement and fitment like the current one.

We can go out and shop for the rolled tip that fit Dinan's exhaust tip for another $100, maybe?
