is this also available for the 2007 530i with SMG???? Who much would installation cost, approximately, and would it void our warranties? Ive already bout some mods and I still dont have my car yet, haha
houbmw,
Contact Koala Motorsport: http://www.koalamotorsport.com/contact.asp. They may just have a 530 differential for you. I bet all it is is a swap from a 530 Step with a final drive ratio of 3.64.

$1500 is just for the differential and shipping from Ohio. Installation is separate. I have a guy in mind already in San Diego to do the install.
Hey Jiio, my cousin at wheelpower talked to EvoSport yesterday. They said they are getting headers for our cars! Let's go on a HP rampage

Adding an after-market part will not void any part of a BMW warranty. However, if an after-market part causes the failure of a BMW part, then the part and labor needed for repair will not be covered.

To deny a warranty claim, all BMW has to do is to assert that an after-market part caused the problem with the OEM part--whether it did or not. BMW, like many manufacturers, is very adroit at arguing that problems with OEM parts are caused by after-market parts. Thus, I would not want to be in the position of having to take BMW to court to force the company to "prove" its point.

So, I won't install an after-market part that might be argued somewhat reasonably to have caused the failure of a BMW part unless the after-market manufacturer provides a warranty on the part and any BMW part that may fail because of the part (e.g., Dinan). Even then, one can get caught in the middle.

Hollywood,
You and I should try to get some other folks for a group buy

I don't know if I want to pay Dinan's overinflated price of $2K. Koala Motorosport is selling differentials for $1500 and you get a choice of the different final drive ratios. Dinan only offers 3.45. I think I'm going to go with either 3.91 or 3.64 from Koala. Thanks for the info Znod and choi000!
You are welcome. Happy down gearing.

Hey Z, do you think the differential will shave off at least .5 seconds on the zero to sixty?

I really do think so--even going 3.48 to 3.91. That's 12.4% more RW torque. Let's say that means 12% more RWHP--.124 X 250 (max) = 40.92 more equivalent RWHP for a 545i. Assuming a 20% loss in efficiency between the flywheel and the ground, that means 40.92 / .8 = 51.15 more equivalent FWHP--which yields a total of 51.15 + 330 = 381.15 equivalent FWHP for a 545i. Then, using the standard rule of thumb that 10 extra FWHP means a .1 quicker ET we get an ET improvement of 51.15 / 10 / 10 = .5115 sec quicker ET.

Whoa Well done Z. Jiio and I were seriously considering this mod sometime soon. He'll probably pick it up before I do. When it's all said and done, you should cruise down to LA and have a field day with my car bring the g-meter!

It's gonna be the best $2K spend so far on my precious. I'm going to make the call to Koala tomorrow and give them my business then call the guy in San Diego to set up a schedule for the install.

Hollywood,
I'm gonna tear you up! That is until you get yours done. :'(
