This is really great information. What were the results of the investigation? Does the M5 Diff work? Is there another Diff with LSD that can work? What are the associated prices?

Sorry for all the questions, but this one mod could really elevate the performance of our 545/550...

No, the e60 M5 diff won't work. I had the shop that would've done the work do some research into it. They said it's cost prohibitive. It's not the same thing as swapping out a e39 M5 into a e39 540i. From what I read, that was an easy sway. The e60 M5 diff swap to 545/550 is much more complicated.

There is a diff with LSD available from Koala Motorsport available. I'm sure it was mentioned in this thread.

That's too bad. I spent some time on the phone with my old service advisor in Dallas at Classic BMW. They are a Dinan shop and he had just been out in California test driving E60s - he thinks they have developed an LSD version of the differential. Stay tuned...

Yes, for $4400, vegas ...
Someone ask to bimmerworld.com : they should have ring and pinion for 3.38 and 3.23 for the OEM diff .
For about $600!
Someone would have to call them ..

bimmerworld told me for $2100 is possible to buy a Quaife (LSD) to insert in our stock diff, but how reacts the DSC ?

Damn it, you are there near shops that sell these parts, try to do these mods!

I called bimmerworld today. No really good news, though.

You can get a 3.15 gearset from bimmerworld for $500. 3.38, 3.64 and 3.91 are all priced at $1395 - which is a financial no go when you can get the entire diff from Dinan at $1995 (pre discount) with much, much less labor...

Would someone with the requisite skills do the calc on the 3.15? I don't think there's enough of a torque advantage to bother, but...

Isn't there the 3.23 ?
It would be PERFECT, FANTASTIC!

Tulsa, from 2.93 to 3.23 you would pass from (kmh) 68-116-176-230-279-320 to 56-103-157-209-251-288 .

3.15 ...
1? 63/64
2? 107/108
3? 163/164
4? 213/214
5? 259/260
6? 297/298

7% shorter than OEM 2.93 .

And $500 now are ?378 ...

If somebody find a good mechanich that knows to open differentials .. I propose to do a collection of $50-100 each one to sponsor the mod to him .
