I hope you guys know that you can have the dealer do the mp3 retrofit done for FREE. I found this SIB form BMW and used this about a couple of weeks ago. Just print and took this to my dealer and asked my SA to enable my mp3 as it was not recognizing the cd in the dash cd player.
Also, there are a lot of things on the Dension site that refer to
* Due to be replaced shortly for compatibility with the new iPod range (Due 1st Quarter 2009)
Anyone know anything about that? they aren't showing the BT2000 yet on the site, so maybe that's part of it.

Hello All,
i've been reading this topic and i'm definitely interested in having ipod and pb installed.
I do have mp3, i have CDC and i can play mp3 from head unit only (not from CDC). I don't have built in BMW bt.
My ride is '06 e61.
Now, the question is - how dension bt can work without mic (don't think i have one). I'm almost sure that GW500 will be working but still, i'd like to understand overall before going for that. Another question - will iDrive see this bt as enabled
Communication chanel? Now - there is nothing but dealer phone number![Frown](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/sad.gif)
Can anyone give me some info on this?

Hi from sunny Southern California.
I just picked a 550i that comes with the CDC and which is MP3 compatible. The car came with an aux input that is located in the rear of the center console. The car already has bluetooth. I'm don't want to bother cutting out the resisters, etc. of the aux cable so I'm just going to go ahead with a Dension setup.
Now, all I need is the GW500 and AVR correct?
Thank you gentlemen!

The Dension does not have any limitations and IMHO is a far superior product than the BMW OEM kit. Its got added features that make it very interesting.
Take care about what instructions you use and dont use the ones that you download from the website because they are not the same as the ones for this unit and in the box. I've posted the manual in Muttley's thread that is linked from the 1st post in this thread.
The units have now started showing up on eBay and one just sold for less than what Val was selling his for @ $350. So watch that site if you are interested.
I will post a full DIY at a later date when I have things installed clean. And as with everything I do it will not involve any cut wires.

I noticed in a previous post that you could not get the Dension to play video on Full Screen. Did you ever get that figured out?
Also, I don't have NAV in my car but what if I install a NAV screen (just the screen). I know that my iDrive screen will shift to the left and the right side of the screen, which is normally used for navigation, will be blank but then I can used my iPod to play video, full screen.
Do you think that's possible?

The Dension AVR may be able to use the full screen but the BMW ACM doesn't use the full screen. There is still no one who has confirmed being able to use the full screen on the BMW ACM.

The 4 dip switches is the old one. But in terms of capabilities it makes no difference, both can do the same. The Hardware changed but the software is the same.

guys i have a question, i am looking into getting a dension 500 + bt1500 installed into my car but i came across this on their website:
*BTA will only operate when the entertainment system is in Gateway mode. If you are listening to the radio when a call comes in, simply select CD changer function, and your BTA will operate as described
does that mean i won't be able to hear/accept the call coming through if i am listening to the radio and not using the gateway in either aux, usb, or pod mode?
can anyone confirm that is the case?
