i purchased a new dension gateway 500 for my 2004 bmw 545i.it is a 4/2004 build. the car has no nav, it has a cd changer but does not have mp3 enebled. i can play mp3's, but i cannot view the song titles via my i-drive. i tried to install the gateway 500, but could not get the i-pod to work. i followed the directions that came with the unit and pluged up all the harnesses as per instructions. after i installed everything, the cd changer was working, but the i-pod option was not. the fiber optics were correct because the cd changer was running through the dension unit. my unit has 6 dip switches and i tried all the settings shown in the instructions.

is there something i missed? i followed the instruction but i cant figure it out. i read that it is possible to hook up unit without mp3 enabled or in a non text format. is it possible?

I think if you dont have the mp3 option on your HU then you wont get the titles.

 

but can it still work? without the titles? when i plug in the i-pod, it just states device attached and when i flip the switch to turn on the dension it does not operate. i beleive the hook ups are correct, but i should be able to get the i-pod to work even without the mp3 enabled.

Yes, it works in not text mode also. Use the non-text BMW DIP-SW setting (OFF-ON-OFF-OFF-OFF-OFF).
Please note, that any new DIP-SW setting became operable only after you disconnect/reconnect the power source (or press reset).
