Right, saga is over. It all works! (Well, almost and I'll get to that in a minute)

Wollastons in Northampton correctly recognised that I needed a bridging connector - part number B61.13.6.931.507. Once that was installed, the software updates needed to be [re-]applied. Both the GW500 and the BTA1500 are now working. Cost another ?73 to put this in (on top of the previous ?160 to apply the software update)

One unusual thing that's happened is that my iPod doesn't work with the GW500 but they tried another one in the dealer and it did. Mine is an old enough 3G model but it should work (has latest firmware) and the GW500 also has the latest firmware. Anyone found this problem?

I have a 2005 525d with M-ASK and can confirm that MP3 text works on the dash (playing from a USB flash drive)

Yes, that's what I had to do. You might be lucky and it'll all just work. You might also need a bridging cable - see my previous post

Is there a fiber optic cable already coming to the glove-box? I actually haven't been able to find a single internet installation/FIY for the E60 to add ipod kit in glove box, that didn't have CDC? If a CDC is installed ,it is fairly easy. But without CDC, I think we need to reach the back of the CCC/head-unit (& I read some drilling too) and might also need additional parts? Can anyone please help?
The cable is there already. However, it looks like it's a loop rather than 2 ends. Mine was covered in tape. Once you take off the tape, you find a very small plastic box with a cable coming out either end. You need to prise off the box as described earlier in this thread and then you have the 2 ends of the fibre-optic cable.

Regards,
Cian

Guys

I just installed the OEM ipod interface ( removed the CD changer ) and had the dealer code it for me.

What do I need to do if I want the Dension unit instead?

Since you already have had the car coded, install the Dension unit, that should do it.

I recently installed a Dension 500 and Bluetooth adapter however I get no txt on the idrive screen. I had the car Mp3 coded but still no txt. The guy who coded the car says the m-ask i have cannot display txt ( said he checked the part no. ).
Can anyone advise if this is the case? I was under the impression all M-asks could be coded to work with the dension.

Ps I have 03 e60 with business Nav. and cd changer. I've also checked the dension dip switches and they seem fine :-(

Hi all,
I just took delivery on a used 07 530i. It comes with the Navigation but no CDC. I want to install an ipod interface but not the OEM. My brother was telling me about the Gateway 500 which, from what I have read, looks great. So many options, USB, bluetooth, etc..
The stealer tells me it will cost about $650 to $750 to install the OEM because they have to install and programming and about 2 1/2 hrs work.
It seems that at the end of the day what ever I do, the stealer has to program the car.
I would like to get the gateway 500. It seems that the dealer will not program the car if it is not the OEM ipod interface. at the end of the day not matter what I do I have to get them involve.
If i buy the Gateway 500, is there a dealer in southern california that will program the car without the OEM. And is there a place in SC that I can buy the gateway 500?

Any advice
Thanks

Hi,
I am a newbie to this site and wishisng to install dension in my car. I see lot of members ahve managed to get it done and working.

I have 520D 2006 with M-ASK unit. no CDC no Nav.
I recently gave my car to dealer as i was getting some interference on I drive screen. ( car is under approved car warranty) . Dealer tried to update software but it seems MASK unit crashed or was faulty. now i am waiting i drive control unit to come from Germany.

I have purchased a Dension 500 and BTA bluetooth module now and wish to get it installed and coded at the same time when dealer recode my entire car with new MASK unit.

I am not sure if dension and BTA need to be installed first before it can be coded. ?
Can i get I drive coded for Ipod and Bluetooth telematics from dealer first and then install dension myself. has someone managed to get bluetooth enabled by dealer ?

I have spoken to a indy who is able to code Idrive with autologic but i m worried about invalidating my warranty

Thanks for help
