It recognises the track names etc in the front slot but 'greys' out the CD # of the slot the MP3 CD is in when I put it in the CD Changer.
Does this mean my car isn't compatible with the denison Gateway 500? And if not, why not? Surely, having the up to date Progman version means my car is MP3 compatible or does the CD Changer part need a software upgrade of it's own?

There is still no sign of an MP3 enabled CD changer. What you describe is normal behaviour and I'm pretty sure the Dension would work for you.

The Dension GW simulates MP3 discs. If you head unit cannot handle MP3 disc in the CDC then you will see CD1-6 as not accessible ones.
You can try the BMW non-MP3 DIP setting on GW, just to see if you have iPod sound and track control. You won't have text in this case.
If it works then let the service enable MP3 on the head unit and switch back to BMW MP3 mode on GW.

That is interesting because in that case no one should be able to get Text on the Dension because as mentioned I've yet to hear of an MP3 enabled stacker.
I'm actually now wondering if the MP3 capability is present between the Changer and the HU, its just that our current changer hardware cannot read data discs. So Dension is actually exploiting a capability that we cannot use due to current hardware limitations.

Marc I think the CDC is misleading because if you visit the Dension website they seem to refer to "MP3 Capable Head Unit (CDC)" so CDC may not actually be Compact Disc Changer but instead Connected Device Configuration. In plain speak it means a standard for data communication between devices.

Guys-guys you do not read or search man, look it plays all, what you do not have like me if you have no Prof Nav is text function, but as posted many time I shuffle a 160 Gb Mp3 a day yesss DENSION GW500 and their new accessory- not yet out- CARTRIDGE that hooks directly to the GW500 and all you need in FAT 32 a PATA HDD and then you got that all.

Most important do not know why but you need CD-changer 'cause that port is being installed for the GW500, I have only preparation for Cd-changer and it GW 500 works nice.

i've just ordered dension gw 500 for my e60, can someone tell me where is cd changer port in glovebox? what do i have to remove to come to it? i don't have cd changer installed.. i have professional navigation with cd and dvd slot..
