Dension 500
#1
Hi guys,
Having been round the houses looking at enabling mp3 capability via ipod interfaces and mp3 software update I am thinking I'd rather just have the Dension unit installed.
My car is an 04 530d with 6 cd changer and single cd on the dash with business radio. No nav, no mp3 support and no ipod interface. Furthermore dealer and all research on this and other forums suggests I can't have mp3 support enabled as its the business radio in an 04 car.
I've scoured all the threads relating to the Dension install but have a couple of questions still:
1. How does it work if I don't have mp3/ipod update coding applied? Aparently you get no text on the display how limiting it this?
2. Can I install this unit without any dealer coding required or any other reason to visit the damn dealer?
3. Does anyone have pictures of the interface in use when the unit is installed in this situation (i.e no mp3/ipod update).
Many thanks for any help on this. CDs are driving me NUTS!!

Why can't you get the encoding from the dealer?
And BMW Gloucester also say its not possible
My car is 04 build with business radio. It looks like early cars can have the retrofit but only if they have the unit with Navigation unless anyone can tell me otherwise?
Original questions still stand too if anyone can help

The bulletins for the Progman retrofit seem to say it can't be done on my car: https://5series.net/forums/index.php?act=at...t&id=101837 and here: https://5series.net/forums/index.php?showto...st&p=873737

Without the update it will still work but you would just get track numbers instead of titles and folder numbers instead of folder / playlist names...
depends if you can live with that i guess...

AFAIK ... non-Nav car can NOT have MP3 enable by software update/retrofit, it requires newer physical in-dash CD player swap.
To have the GW500 working the best thing to do is install it (use the install guide that come w/ the kit or get it from their website) you can have it in place of the CD changer or tie it together w/ the CDC (make sure it's installed & working properly) and take it for iPod retrofit programming ... as BMW programming head will recognize the GW500 as an OEM iPod module ...
There are at least couple of members here that their in-dash CD player can not play MP3 (and their car are non-Nav) and use GW500 using iPod retrofit enable programming and all working well including proper text display.
