I like the 172's but cleaned similar wheels on my M3 for over 2 years and it was a chore. The 166's look fairly easy to clean, and the RX11's remind me of the M3 Competition series wheels which I also had and were relatively easy to clean.

One advantage of the RX11 is they have a lip. I shudder to think what would happen to the 166's if my wife drives into a curb. But for the difference in price I could replace several wheels if need be.

These are the BBS RXII's -

According to wheelweights.net, a 18x8.5 RXII weighs 26.3lb.
According to tirerack.com, a 19x10 RXII weighs 30.5lb.
That's not bad, especially since the RXII is cast/spun, not forged. (A forged BBS wheel like the RS-GT will be about 10lb lighter per wheel.)
Between the 166 and RXII's, I would definately go with the RXII's. I hate it when non-M cars get the wheels from the M car. It makes it look like a wannabe. Besides, the RXII's look so good!

M 166 definitely. Those BBS are nice but not so nice on a car anymore...... they create a "hole" image.... as oppose to the M166 style - those looks awesome, like a turbine spinning....

I say go BBS, RX wheels look great and me personally I wouldnt spend "heavy money" for stock wheels even if they were on an m5. Just my opinon

I agree with you about making the 550 or 545 seem like an immitation M5. That is definitely one point I am considering. I do not want to give the impression I am driving an M car. If the price were the same, it would be a no brainer. As it is I am leaning toward the RX11 as these wheels remind me of the BBS M3 Competition series wheels which I loved.

Made the decision today: the 166's. I went and looked at an M5 at the dealership, and I love these wheels. Also I was able to purchase the set for $1600 plus shipping from Veheh at Crevier BMW. And as luck would have it I found an almost new set of Michelin PS2's in the sizes I wanted for about half price.
I didn't want to spend a fortune on aftermarket wheels, but just felt the stock 18" rims were a little small for my taste. I had 19" wheels on my M3, and the 550i is a lot more car.
I'm happy to have made this decision. Now I can get on with life and start debating whether to put my 600 watt Diamond audio amp and my 10" Diamond audio subwoofer in my trunk to jazz up the Logic 7. Oh, and I need to think about tinting.
