Called up a place in Dallas today (Details LTD in Addison) for a quick quote on a front bumper re-spray. It's an M-tech. He said he really needed to see the car to give me a quote, but from a recent BMW job, he quoted me about $1000, which includes sand down, primer and paint. Sometimes he said most of the time, it's cheaper to buy a new one and paint, rather than sanding it down and repainting. But with the cost of the M-tech front bumper, he suggested going with the re-paint route.
My question is what's a decent price for a great job on something like this? Is this guy gouging me or not?
Damn road rash!

Hard to say, always hard to get the color to match, the price you quoted for the amount of work that he wants to do, complete sand, primer, paint/color match/clear coat. Sounds about right. Now if some guys want to just bondo the rashed parts, sand and patch paint, then you are looking about 1/2 the cost.....

I repainted my front M-tech on my 545i for $400. It came out absolutely perfect, but it was done in Norcal.

Good thing my wife's leaning with the re-paint. And she insisted on me getting a clear bra with the re-spray.

$1000?! That sounds absurd, I agree with Icey, $400/500 range sounds about right. BTW are you just running the front bumper or do you have the full kit? I'm debating if I should just get the front bumper for now and possibly the rest later. I do like the rear bumper how it looks now.

Frank, I just got an estimate today to get my front bumper repainted. Remove, Sand, Prime, Paint, Clear, Reinstall. Keep in mind this was an estimate for an insurance claim. I'm sure this would be cheaper if it were cash. This shop does 99% of all body work for one of the local BMW dealerships.
Body Labor 7.0hrs@$50.00/hr
Paint Labor 5.0hrs@$50.00/hr
Paint Supplies 5.0hrs@$30.00/hr
Body Supplies 3.6hrs@$2.00/hr
Grand Total $757.20
