I am looking to try and get a subwoofer enclosure in the trunk where the spare tire is. Has anyone built a custom fiberglass box in the trunk with a two 12 inch sub or 10 inch?
Trying to weigh out my options.
I have the standard audio in a 2008 535, what plug do you need to buy to add an aftermarket amp or sub? I know this has been beaten to death this question, but I figure I ask since I am on the topic.

I bought a RCA conversion box. This is where the wires come in and go out as an RCA. Some amps have a setup where you can attach the four wires directly to the amp, mine didn't so needed the box. If you search for sub install you can find the setup that another person did with instructions. It explains the connections that you need to make and is very easy! I am thinking about doing some kind of small custom sun enclosure but haven't had the time to really get into it. I would like to make something that comes off the left removable trunk cover. You can buy them but it will cost you your wife and all your kids... They are just too over the top in cost.

That was the one I had also seen and considered until I found out the price. You would think for that much they could at least match the carpet. Some out there just because it's for a BMW the price is just crazy.

not trying to be a smart ass, but if you go to shop that does fiberglass work, they should be able to do you a custom mold for WAY under $600...I would say maximum would be $300.

A custom Fiber Glass box where the wheel well is what I am talking about. Not just a regular box. Sorry should have been more specific. I don't want to lose the trunk space since my seats fold down and I always store stuff.
I wanted to do custom fiber glass and take the spare tire out, put two 12" subs in the floor (fiberglass box) with my Rockford T1000 amp and have it so the trunk is still usable. I had a quote for like $2000 for everything. I was not really looking to spend.
Trust me if it was just a BOX I would have not even bothered making this thread lol.
This way I have spend $650 plus $300 to install it.

The price for the stealthbox includes the driver, which retails for $600 (and sells on ebay in the $275-380 range). A new, authorized stealthbox for $650 is an awesome deal IMO.

I would be very suspect of the quality of workmanship from any shop that would be willing to build a fiberglass box, from scratch, for $300. Fiberglass done correctly is just too time consuming to get right. Assuming a labor rate of $40/hour (which is cheap IMO), $300 works out to just 7.5 hours of labor, and that doesn't even consider the cost of materials.

YUP, he is right, Those Stealthboxes were like $1100 when they first came out, now you can get them on EBAY brand new shipped for like $699. $650 is a great deal as you stated. A custom fiberglass box will easily run $750 to $1000 from a good decent installer. There is a guy on this forum named Nelson, who lives in Miami. He has a tricked out system in his E60, he prob spent 10 grand on it. He has another friend named Don that is in NJ I believe who sells and installs high end car stereo. He knows everything about BMW. Exquisite Marketing Group is his Company and his number is 732-572-1969 Do a search on Nelson and his car, he has DYNAUDIO, TRU AMPS and so on.
Those guys are really nice and helpful. Don nhas a web site under his company name, google it. GL
