I had a similar problem a few years ago with an after market headlight assembly on my e39 540.Once I went back to the factory assembly, the shadows disappeared. My question is did you just change the D1s bulbs or did you do anything with the assembly. Also it could simply be some grease smudges associated with changing of the bulbs.

The bulbs were changed to 6k but also had the lens replace with a clear lens. I don't think changing the bulb to 6k would do that, so I'm guessing the lens replacement is causing this. Although I love the look of it, I wish the shadow cast on the ground were further out.
