AFE has one. Im sure the one for the 550 can fit unless they moved the air filter somewhere else.I was told by Dinan that the ECU is needed with the CAI to really take advantage of the less air restriction.

The AFE CAI is going my my car. Darwin is going to order and make it fit. I'm going to have to remind him again tonight when I see him.

You might gain .5 a hp and gain 1-2mpg. BMWs intakes are designed very well and many people don't bother upgrading it, unlike Japanese cars. Don't expect too much from an intake. If you want real performance, save up for some headers or something.

I have always been a proponent of this. First, the gains are so minimal that the butt dyno won't recognize the change. Second, any fan used in a dyno test will never simulate real world driving as far as forced air is concerned so the dyno won't validate your purchase and third, unless the intake is completely sealed from the interior of the engine bay, you will get heat soak which will modulate your ecu in a negative way. IIRC, the AFE intake for the 550i does NOT seal off the intake element from the engine bay.

One caveat, if it makes you feel better, the NIKE rule applies... just do it.
